Metallurgical coke inspection

Coke is a product made of coking coal, a type of coal that contains less sulfur and less ash due to the process of coking coal into coke in anaerobic conditions above 1000 ° С. Volatile components such as water, coal gas and coal ash have been removed almost completely. Carbon and residual ash are dissolved together, part of the carbon is converted to graphite-like form.

Coke is used for smelting cast iron (blast furnace coke) as well as making high-quality smokeless fuel, reducing agent in metallurgical technologies from iron ore, emulsifying agents in materials. Coke is also used as a fuel in the manufacture of cast iron or other common uses, in the chemical and metallurgical industries of iron (special types of coke).

The chemical and physical specification of commercial coke are usually as follows:

  • Partical size: 30mm-90mm, 30mm-50mm, 25mm-80mm, 25mm-90mm, 30mm-85mm,…
  • Ash content (Dry basis):                 < 12.5% hoặc 13.5%
  • Volatile matter (Dry basis):             < 1.2% hoặc 1.5%
  • Fixed Carbon content:                    > 86% hoặc 85%
  • Sulphur content (Dry basis):           < 0.65%
  • Phosphorous content (Dry basis):  < 0.04%
  • M10                                                < 7% or 9%
  • M40                                                > 82% or 84%
  • CRI                                                 < 30%
  • CSR                                                > 60%
